Guy recently spent some time at the Low Impact Living Initiative (Lili) in Bucks learning more about round timber construction and straw bale building. We hope to incorporate both these techniques into hybrid houses in the future.
In the meantime. Harriet and Clement went green in Ireland at The Hollies, a sustainable living centre which hosts various courses, many of them cob-related. They completed a course covering all aspects of cob, run by Ianto Evans (of Cob Cottage Company and co-author The Handsculpted House). They also spent two days on a cookstove course, exploring the methods used to build bread ovens, lorena cookstoves, rocket stoves and the rumford fireplace.
