Chris Adair (MD)

I’m 40 years old, own a small successful business in London W1 specialising in high quality audio systems, now embracing complete home control / automation. I set up the cornflake shop www.cornflake.co.uk 20 years ago and have been dealing with clients & their architects building or re-building their homes for the last 15 years.

Before cornflake I completed a degree from Imperial College London in Civil Engineering. I have always been interested in technology and its impact on the planet, always attracted to “green” ideas. As time has passed I realise I’m very interested in Healthy Living in general and am increasingly aware of the things that affect us and the environment, like structure, lighting, acoustics, noise, etc, as well as the subtler things, like electromagnetic radiation, electric fields, etc.

I don’t always live too healthily or greenly, loving chocolate croissants and espresso coffee, riding motorbikes and well I won’t go on.
To balance this I do Tai Chi (martial) each day, eat organic and have a family with an exciting 6 yr old daughter. And I love listening to music.

Guy Anderson
(Project Manager)

With years of building experience on land and water and a long-standing interest in green issues, Guy has risen to all the challenges of cob project management. He smokes roll-ups, drinks his tea cold and you will be hearing much more from him!

Harriet Sandilands
(Apprentice, Journalist, Company Secretary)

A wordsmith at heart, I completed a degree in English and French and a post-grad journalism qualification. My jobs have been varied: tractor driving on a banana farm, carrying a baby bridesmaid down the aisle, writing for the Tower of London and Francophile magazines, children’s book publishing. The list goes on.

I am relishing the new challenges that eco-building throws my way. Always loving the great outdoors, I enjoy cycling, swimming and surfing and, I soon realised, not the daily grind of office work.

Having made the most of low-cost airlines, car driving and spending my student loan on new clothes, I am now exploring different ways of living and travelling – recycling and redesigning clothes, painting old glass jars, travelling by boat, train and bus where possible and discovering the delights of the metropolis on two wheels.

My creativity, increasing interest in green issues, and penchant for tea, biscuits and fry-ups have made adapting to the life of a construction worker a fascinating and exciting process for me.

I love music, radio 4, reading, potatoes and prawns.

Clement Toumit
(Apprentice)

From Toulouse in the south of France, Clement joined Growing in April 2006 from a background in teaching and globetrotting. Now, a bona fide cob builder, he is ready for our next challenge.
